The Cells Residency 2018
In September 2018, Angel Greenham invited James Thornton and me to collaborate with her for a week on her extended residency in the Cells, located in the Trowbridge Town Hall Arts Centre. The site was the now-disused Victorian and modern holding cells for the county court previously located in the Town Hall. We decided to explore the nature of judgement as the theme for the week.
We created a number of works that included light augmentations, sculpture, sound installations and an installation that mixed an imprisoned large-scale landscape photograph that responded to the ephemeral nature of the light through the windows, a sound piece created from the sounds of the building. A projection of chapters of the bible revolving around judgement in the interrogation room next to the cells (and an accompanying bible for reference) complimented the other pieces.
